5 SEO Tips No One Tells You About

Tip 1: Rely On GoogleTrends

One of the most common complaints I here from clients is that they are writing a blog but no one is viewing them. I don’t want to be the bearer of bad news but sometimes what clients think are great topics are not relevant. That is why before I start writing about a topic I go to GoogleTrends.

How I use GoogleTrends - I type in a topic that I am interested in writing about then GoogleTrends displays the trending key term. Below is a screen shot of the photography tips people are interested in.

-          Eclipse Photography tips

-          Travel Photography Tips

-          Tips for Portrait Photography

-          Food Photography Tips

You will also see catergories that are trending. The one that caught my eye was candid photography. I’ve been noticing this trend on Instagram and I know that it is something that people are going to want. Although the trend displays eclipse photography tips at the #1 Trending topic ins 2018 – I would not write about it because that event has passed and people have not googled it for months.

Remember that technology such as GoogleTrends is amazing but at the end of the day you need to decipher what the data means for you and your business.

Tip 2: Know your competitors.

There is a tool I absolutely love and has made my snooping game so strong – SemRush.com. It has so many great features and I could go on and on with all the tools I use but for the sake of this blog post I will stick to SEO optimization tools.

In SemRush you can type your competitor’s website and it will populate the key terms that lead users to their site.  It will also show you where they are getting their backlinks from. You can use this information to plan your next post or reach out to a blog that featured them to see if you can guest blog. The other tool I love to use within SemRush is the SEO Content Template. Once again I used the term “Photography Tips”

This tool displays:

·         Top ranked websites

·         Backlinks

·         Recommended text length

·         How your competitors use your target word

·         Basic Recommendations

o   Page Title

o   Meta Description

o   H1

o   Text

The fact that it gives you tips on how many words you should aim to include and what to include in your meta description has been a game changer. Disclosure: SemRush is free for the first 14 days and the starting plan starts at $99 a month.

Tip 3: Have a plan

Like social media – if no one is engaging with your content then Google is going to assume the content is not good. Never publish your blog until you have a plan to fire. When I first started Empowering Women Now I didn’t have an audience so I heavily relied on Reddit and leaving the url in the comment section on a popular Facebook Pages. I would also message other pages and request that they share my blog posts.

Fast forward to 2018 and my strategy has shifted. I now immediately post my blog on my Facebook, Instagram, Instagram & Facebook Stories, Pinterest, Facebook Groups, Reddit, and Bloglovin. I have also partnered with pages that are committed to sharing my blog posts on their social media accounts. The last step I take is sending it to my email subscribers. This flood of traffic notifies Google that it is time to crawl the site – or at least I theorize it does.

Note: I don’t hold back and reshare content from a couple months ago using the same strategy.

Tip 4: Look at your Google Analytics

So many times, we look outward for the answers. We compare our blogs to our competitors and wonder why we haven’t received the traffic – we revamp our website – rebrand our entire business – take more pretty pictures but we fail to look under the hood.

Google Analytics literally tells you what pages are getting traffic to your site – it tells you what pages people are leaving from – it tells you your audience demographics. Use that information to create better blogs.

One of my most visited blog posts is “How To Be A Classy Woman” – although I have to admit its not my favorite blog post I’ve created but my audience loved it. I decided to really get the best out of that blog post by creating a freebie to entice people to sign-up to my email list. I also linked other blogs that women would be interested in reading within the post. Last but not least I encourage users to follow me on Pinterest for more posts. I specifically state Pinterest because I know that those users are more likely to revisit my site. How do I know this? Google Analytics.

Tip 5: Collaborate

As I mentioned in my previous blog, link building is HUGE in the SEO world. I have guest blogged before to build my authority. I’ve started collaboration with other Facebook Business Pages that allow me to share my blogs as much as I want. I’ve also reached out to women and encouraged them to share their story on my website. Every time I get guest blogger they promote my site on their social media accounts and on their own blogs. It’s a beautiful thing that ultimately builds my blogs authority.

I encourage you to learn about SEO as much as you can. I promise you it isn’t as scary as everyone has made it out to be.
